Roberto León Richards, the President of the Cuban Olympic Committee (COC), held a meeting with the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Cristy Koventry, the digital newspaper JIT reported today.
According to the report, Richards congratulated Koventry on behalf of the Cuban Olympic Movement, especially its athletes, coaches, and officials, "for her status as the first woman to hold such a high office," following a successful career as a multi-medal-winning Olympic swimmer from a friendly African nation, Zimbabwe.
The national official presented her with a sports uniform from the Batos brand, produced by the Cuban Sports Industry, emblazoned with her name and title, along with the Olympic Committee emblem and the Cuban national flag.
As part of his working visit to Lausanne, Richards and the Secretary General of the Cuban Olympic Committee, Ruperto Herrera, held discussions with officials from several IOC Solidarity departments, as well as from finance, marketing, legal, and intellectual property.
At the offices of the Association of National Olympic Committees, the island's sports representatives met with the Director of Events and Projects, Emilie Robert.
The parties discussed the Safe Sport commissions and "the possibility of developing the Beach Games and meetings of the 206 national Olympic committees in Varadero."
They also conversed with the President of the International Volleyball Federation, Fabio Azevedo, and its Executive Committee, which includes Cuban three-time Olympic champion Mireya Luis as one of its vice presidents.
According to the press report, a representative from the IOC Solidarity team participated in that meeting "to promote support from that institution for the rescue of Cuba's historical results in that sport."
