Oleiny Linares from Santiago de Cuba wins the national chess crown

Havana, February 21 (RHC)-- With a farewell triumph, Santiago de Cuba's Oleiny Linares changed the panorama and was crowned this Monday in the National Women's Chess Championship, held in Camagüey.

Oleiny defeated Yoana Gonzalez, from the capital, in a day in which she arrived as second in the ranking, since Lisandra Ordaz, from Pinar del Rio, had been the leader in solitaire since several days before.

However, the latter gave way to the hands of the queen of 2022 from Santiago, Yaniela Forgas and the roles were reversed in the final classification.

With 8.5 points, Oleiny took home her fourth crown in these competitions, having previously reigned in 2010, 2016 and 2019, while Ordaz finished with eight points and as runner-up of the event.

Yerisbel Miranda, also from Pinar del Río, completed the podium, owner of seven points after a quick draw in the bye against Amanda Muñiz from Villaclare.

Yaniela took fourth place with 6.5 points, and with half a point less, the experienced Maritza Arribas from Santiago was fifth.

From seventh to twelfth place were Amanda (5.5 points), Patricia Hernández (5.5), Ineymig Hernández (4.5), Yoana (4.5), Roxángel Obregón (4), Karen Gutiérrez (3.5) and Mayra Cabrera (2.5).
