The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, responded this Saturday to the threat issued by her US counterpart, Donald Trump, following the unprecedented airstrike against Venezuela, as highlighted by local press media today.

"We have a very good relationship in terms of security and other issues with the United States. There is communication, there is understanding on security issues," she stated according to a report by the newspaper La Jornada.

"We, as we have always said: collaboration, coordination, but not subordination," she emphasized in response to the interventionist threat.

Hours after the military aggression against Venezuela, which ended with the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, the US magnate speculated that drug trafficking cartels supposedly govern the Central American country.

In this regard, he mentioned that "something will have to be done about Mexico" to stop the illegal flow of drugs to the US.

For her part, Sheinbaum expressed her rejection of the aggressions perpetrated by the US against the Bolivarian nation.

"We condemn this intervention in Venezuela and we will be attentive to the events," she said.

Earlier this Saturday, the Government of Mexico "energetically condemned" the military actions unilaterally executed by the US Armed Forces against targets on Venezuelan territory.
