Nicaragua and Cuba currently promote cooperation in the field of cinema with the development of several projects seeking to maintain a systematic link in this sector.
In an interview with Prensa Latina, Yanin Martinez, vice-president of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC), expressed satisfaction with the efforts made by her institution and the Nicaraguan Cinema, to make co-production in international relations reach not only the cinema but also all audiovisual arts.
Martinez mentioned an agreement inked last year, between ICAIC and the national film industry of Nicaragua, which served as a starting point to take the first steps forward in establishing an international relationship in the seventh art, between the two countries.
“We opened this week the first Cuban cinema exhibition in Nicaragua, we brought four films ranging from restored classics to full-length animation and contemporary films,” she said.
“Lucia” (1968) directed by Humberto Solas, “Meñique” (Tom Little and the Magic Mirror, 2014) by Ernesto Padron, and “Buscando a Casal” (Looking for Casal, 2019) by Jorge Luis Sanchez were among the Cuban films screened from Tuesday to Thursday at the Sala Mayor of the National Cinematheque.
The film “Buscando a Casal” (2019), dedicated to Cuban modernist poet Julian del Casal (1863-1893), who cultivated a friendship with Nicaraguan bard and writer Ruben Dario, closed the final day of the cinema exhibition, which also included a poster exhibition.
