Havana, Oct 19 (Prensa Latina) The Jose Marti National Library of Cuba (Bncjm) celebrated 121 years of safeguarding culture, enlivening the intellect of those who visit it at present to learn about the documentary, bibliographical, artistic and sound of the country.

Essayist and Bncjm Director Omar Valiño underlined on his digital platforms that this year the National Library hosted the 4th Scientific Library Conference, held at the Hart Theater with the presentation of papers on topics related to the bibliographic field.

The scientific event held on Tuesday at the Bncjm is the most vivid tribute to the 121 years of the institution. Research, projects, experiences, new proposals, draw the map to go to that library of the future, he stressed.

Valiño praised the various studies for the series of projects developed at that institution and evoked people who donated their personal bibliographic heritage with the sole purpose of contributing to the creation of the site.

Containing some 2,000 pieces of high value, the National Library was declared a National Monument by the Monuments Commission of the Cultural Heritage Council of Cuba and it keeps copies of books, magazines, newspapers, documents and maps dating from the 15th century to date.
