A plane with aid and personnel from Mexico arrived in Cuba on Saturday night to collaborate in the actions to confront the fire in the industrial zone of the city of Matanzas.

The Boeing 736-700 landed at the local airport with 60 military personnel and 16 technicians and specialists, according to Brigadier General Juan Bravo Velázquez, in compliance with the instructions given by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the Mexican Secretary of Defense. .

The military officer sent by the Mexican government pointed out that they arrived on the island with the mission of collaborating with the Cuban people and participating in the action to control the fire.

According to the Mexican military, the arrival of another plane with resources such as chemical material necessary to put out the fire in the Matanzas industrial zone is expected in the next few hours.

For his part, the Mexican ambassador to the Caribbean island, Miguel Díaz, confirmed that this is the first of three more planes that are about to arrive in the country. “Cuba is not alone,” he remarked.

The first flight with aid from the North American country was received at the Juan Gualberto Gómez international airport by Cuban Transport Minister Eduardo Rodríguez and other island authorities present in Matanzas.

For the next few hours, the arrival of a plane from the Venezuelan airline Conviasa with specialized personnel and medical supplies is expected.

Hours earlier, the president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, thanked the support for the Cuban people by governments, including Russia, Nicaragua, Argentina and Chile.

The head of state also thanked the offer of technical advice by the United States.

The incident occurred the day before when lightning struck a crude oil deposit in the industrial zone of Matanzas that, according to official sources, has left one dead, 121 hospitalized patients, of which five are in critical condition, three in serious condition and another 28 in serious condition. watch out.
