Julio Iglesias Publishes Private Messages from His Employees to Defend His Innocence

Singer Shares WhatsApp Screenshots Amid Sexual Assault Investigation
Spanish singer Julio Iglesias has published on his Instagram profile several messages he allegedly received via WhatsApp from the workers who have accused him of sexual assault, seemingly in an attempt to demonstrate his innocence.

"The evidence is clear: the WhatsApp communications sent by the complainants during the time they worked in my home, and the communications after they left, demonstrate that the disseminated information lacks truthfulness," the singer states in a statement included in his post alongside screenshots of those messages.

Julio Iglesias's posts come after the Spanish National Court's prosecution has, for the moment, rejected the request by his lawyer to be formally admitted into the investigation against him, which would grant direct access to the content of the complaint for alleged sexual crimes being investigated in Spain.

Julio Iglesias says that Instagram is the "only means" that allows him to legitimately exercise his right to defense and "record the absolute falsity of the reported facts."

Content of the Published Messages
In one of the messages dated April 20, 2021, which he attributes to his employees, it reads: "Good evening, Professor, I hope you can sleep without discomfort, dream of little angels, and can rest. I love you very much and if you need anything from me, I am here entirely at your disposal, thank you for your patience and your teachings today. Every day by your side is valuable to me because I learn a little more (adds a heart) a kiss and a hug! Good night."

In another message (May 1, 2021), it states: "Hello Professor!! Good afternoon, let me know when you want me to come to do the exercises"; and in another sent on May 2, the same person tells him: "Good morning, Professor! I hope you had a very good night, remember to put on your postural brace..a kiss.. see you in a while."

In one more from September 23, 2022, they wish him "Happy birthdaaaayyy Julitoooo!!!. Dear Professor, may God continue to fill you with much health so you can continue to enjoy this beautiful life, I send you a kiss and a hug, I LOVE YOU. I always remember you, with affection."

And in another screenshot published by the singer, one can read: "Just wants to say hello," "send you a big hug," and tell him that "she loves you very much."

Singer's Statement on "Media Manipulation"
In his statement, the singer asserts that "it is very serious that lies and disinformation are used as weapons to attack people" and that is why he has decided to attach "some of the WhatsApp communications that highlight the inconsistency of the complaints and the media manipulation" to which, he says, he is being subjected.

The prosecution is investigating a complaint against the singer for alleged harassment and sexual assault in 2021 against two employees in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas.

The reported incidents involve a former household employee of the singer and a physiotherapist, who have provided the court with employment documents, photographs, recordings, WhatsApp messages, or call records to demonstrate the truthfulness of their accusations, which include sexual assaults, harassment, and systematic workplace humiliation.
