Havana, Oct 22 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel called today to promote productive independence in agriculture, one of the main points in the new economic strategy, during the government visit to the province of Villa Clara.

As part of his agenda, the President visited the Agricultural Company Valle del Yabu in that central territory where he insisted on increasing the irrigation systems for better agricultural yields.

It is necessary to move forward on our own, a demand of these times along with the management of science to move towards greater development, the head of State said.

The entity, with more than 2,500 hectares of agricultural funds in operation, is executing an investment program to benefit 2,108 hectares with irrigation techniques.

In this sense, Diaz-Canel called to reinforce the productive chain with mini industries to achieve the maximum use of the capacities and diversify offers that, from this company, reach the Special Zone of Mariel Development and tourism.

The president, along with Prime Minister Manuel Marrero and Vice President Salvador Valdes, led this Thursday the second government visit with the Council of Ministers, in reduced composition due to the Covid-19 pandemy.

Six vice-ministers and holders of various portfolios are participating in the work tour to visit centers of economic and social interest and to review the fulfillment of indications and agreements with the authorities of Villa Clara.
