The exhibition Lecturas verticales (Vertical Readings), currently on display on the second level of the Wifredo Lam Center, is based on an essential premise: literature as the foundation of culture and the book as the central object of this symbolic architecture.

For a long time, the book has been the repository of humanity's knowledge and lyricism, a symbol of collective memory, shared ethics, and an aesthetic vehicle.

This exhibition takes up that notion to explore, from diverse perspectives, the profound meaning of the book beyond its traditional function, opening a space where history, imagination, and critique intersect.

In this context, "Lecturas verticales" proposes the book not only as a container of words but as an artistic object in itself, capable of being intervened, reconfigured, and re-signified.

The participating artists engage in a dialogue with the physical format of the book from stances ranging from the ornamental to the conceptual, addressing themes that question or celebrate its role in society.

The exhibition becomes a visual laboratory in which the symbolism of the book is amplified through visual, narrative, and performative resources that enrich its reading and invite us to think of new ways of approaching it.

The diversity of the works presented—all by Cuban authors—reflects a broad spectrum of interpretations, ranging from the reaffirmation of the book as a cultural emblem to its deconstruction or negation as an object.

This variety of approaches makes "Lecturas verticales" a stimulating and plural exhibition, in which each piece proposes a particular point of view, provoking in the viewer an expanded, multisensory, and perhaps unexpected reading experience.

It is an invitation to rediscover the book not only as a symbol of knowledge but as fertile territory for artistic experimentation.
