The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Tahin, met officially on Sunday with Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who is on an official visit to this country, the second stopover of a Middle East tour.

“I held fruitful official talks with His Highness the Emir of the State of Qatar, @TamimBinHamad. We shared the interest in deepening political-diplomatic relations and reaffirmed the will to diversify and expand economic, commercial, and cooperation relations,” Díaz-Canel wrote on his X profile.

During the meeting, which took place at the Lusail Palace in this capital, the Cuban head of State thanked Al Tahin for his welcome, and stressed the importance of this visit for him and his delegation.

Díaz-Canel, who arrived in Doha on Saturday, highlighted the fraternal welcome he received. After completing an intense working program in Qatar, he will conclude his tour in Iran.

Cuba and Qatar established diplomatic relations on December 13, 1989. Their cooperation is evident in both bilateral relations and multilateral forums.

Before arriving in Qatar, Díaz-Canel paid an official visit to the United Arab Emirates, where he participated in the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), which is being held in Dubai.

At that forum, he reaffirmed Cuba’s full support for the rights of the Palestinian people in the light of the genocide perpetrated by Israeli occupation forces against the civilian population of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

During COP28, the Cuban president met with Priome Minister Pham Minh Chinh (Vietnam), and Abiy Ahmed Ali (Ethiopia), Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Nepal), as well as United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
