Paris, Aug 16 (Prensa Latina) The Railwaymen's Union of the French Labor Union Federation (CGT, in French) on Tuesday announced to donate 10,000 euros in solidarity with Cuba in face of the life-threatening fire occurred in the Matanzas oil terminal.

We want to support Cuba amid such difficult moments. It seems important to us to react urgently, the CGT Secretary-General Laurent Brun told Prensa Latina.

Brun regretted the serious accident at the Matanzas oil terminal, where on August 5 a lightning stroke on one of the oil storage tanks, unleashing explosions and a deadly fire claiming several lives and left over hundreds injured, as well as considerable material damage.

Mr. Brun heaped praise on relations between the Railwaymen’s Union with the Transport Union of the Cuban Workers’ Union.

He also confirmed their recent donation to Cuba, comprising three containers full of foodstuffs to help face the impact of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government on Cuba for over 60 years.

According to Brun, the CGT’s campaign of solidarity with Cuba is currently planning to send three other containers to Cuba before the end of the year.
