French communists support Cuba in face of fire in Matanzas

Paris, Aug 8 (Prensa Latina) The French Communist Party (PCF) expressed full and total solidarity with the people of Cuba due to the fire that has been affecting the Supertanker Base in the western city of Matanzas since Friday.

In a message shared with Prensa Latina, the leader of the organization’s International Relations, Lydia Samarbakhsh, regretted the human, material and ecological consequences of the disaster, caused by the impact of a lightning strike on one of the fuel tanks in the industrial zone.

The French communists considered that the occasion is propitious for the international community to demand that the United States lift the illegal sanctions imposed on Cuba definitively and immediately, in reference to the economic, commercial and financial blockade enforced for more than six decades.

At the Matanzas Supertanker Base, work continues to prevent the spread of the already gigantic fire, which has resulted in the death of one person, 125 people treated for various injuries and 16 people missing.
