The Cuban Telephone Company (ETECSA) noted that working groups are travelling to Guantanamo to restore the service in the affected areas after Hurricane Oscar.
The press report, published on the company’s website, details that line brigades, cable ties and repairmen are being moved to Baracoa and San Antonio del Sur from other territories of the province, while workers from Las Tunas join the brigade.
According to the text, the complex geographical situation is the main obstacle to progress.
It is also stated that the generator set of the Telecommunications center of Imías is already working, which allowed the telephone exchange to be energized to provide local fixed telephone services, and work is being done to connect it to the national system when the technical conditions for connectivity are enabled.
ETECSA confirms that its technological centers with a level of energy will remain providing information to the population.
A previous briefing from the company states that as of Monday night, there were more than eight thousand fixed telephone services affected in the province in the municipalities of Baracoa, Maisí, Imías and San Antonio del Sur.
In the case of mobile services, 74 percent of radio base stations in the aforementioned four municipalities are reported to be affected.
