ETECSA Recovery Brigades Conclude Work in Santiago Following Hurricane

With the satisfaction of duty fulfilled and thanks to the joint effort of workers from several provinces of the country, the recovery actions in the telecommunications sector concluded in Santiago de Cuba, following the damage caused by Hurricane Melissa.

Boris Gómez, National Director of Access Networks for the Cuban Telecommunications Company S.A. (ETECSA), stated to the Cuban News Agency that during these long workdays, the unity of the collective was once again strengthened, new friendships were forged, and, above all, the unwavering people were restored the peace of mind of having services reestablished.

He affirmed that the recovery, marked by a significant limitation of resources, was possible thanks to the creativity and initiative of ETECSA professionals, who found solutions for every situation, by utilizing materials from installed and out-of-use networks in order to advance the reconstruction of the deteriorated service.

Gómez reaffirmed ETECSA's commitment to walk alongside the people and the Revolution, demonstrating that collective will and unity are capable of overcoming any adversity.

The recovery process began with the restoration of optical fibers, essential for connecting radio bases and exchanges, in order to guarantee communications for municipal defense councils and the population.

Furthermore, temporary solutions were implemented to keep inhabitants connected until achieving total rehabilitation.

During a ceremony held this Sunday in the Mayor General Antonio Maceo Grajales Revolution Square, brigades from Camagüey, Havana, Mayabeque, and Villa Clara were recognized, along with the Number Five Area Directorate, the Central Logistics and Services Division, and the Network Operations Vice Presidency, for their shared effort with Santiago professionals in recovering telecommunications.

Likewise, the workers of the Santiago de Cuba Territorial Division sent special recognition to the ETECSA presidency for the promptness, organization, and willingness demonstrated, with the purpose of restoring service in the shortest time possible.

Beatriz Johnson, President of the Provincial Defense Council, expressed the gratitude of the unwavering people for the actions carried out in function of rehabilitating the vital service; a mission where commitment, speed, quality, and solidarity prevailed.

She indicated that, when necessary, as on other occasions, this territory will return the help received after the powerful cyclone, a symbol of the brotherhood and unity of the Cuban people.

For more than a month, ETECSA brigades worked in the province with the purpose of recovering this essential service, heavily affected by the passage of Hurricane Melissa last October 29th.
