Cuba’s record and musical editions Company EGREM has released the second track entitled ‘Selva’, from the album ‘Los Herederos. Homenaje a Chucho Valdés’-- a tribute album to Chucho and his band Irakere.

Chucho is considered among the world’s top five jazz pianists.

‘Selva’ was written and performed by flutist, composer and musical producer Orlando Valle 'Maraca'.

In statements to the press, Maracas said ‘Selva’ is inspired by a tune Chucho composed and which Irakere performed at a jazz festival in Lima, Peru. Puerto Rican-American flutist Dave Valentín, attended the festival in Peru and named Chucho’s song 'My Funny Valentin'.

Artists collaborating in this tribute album on occasion of Chucho’s 80th birthday include pianist Harold López-Nussa, drummer Juan Carlos Rojas, bassist Lázaro Rivero, guitarist Emilio Hernández Martini, trumpet players Yasek Manzano and Roberto García López, saxophonists César López and Alfred Thompson, percussionist and abakúa drums player Yaroldy Abreu and conga player Adel González.

EGREM said it will continue releasing a track from the new album every week. ‘Los Herederos. Homenaje a Chucho Valdés’ also celebrates the 50th anniversary of Irakere --to be marked in 2023.
