President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Wednesday ratified the Cuban Government's support for the family of Dr. Landy Rodriguez, who was kidnapped in Kenya and who is celebrating his birthday today.

On his Twitter account, the president noted that on the occasion of the date, he spoke over the telephone with the doctor's mother, Marta Hernandez, and his wife, Leticia Diaz, to whom he expressed his support and affection.

Landy Rodriguez, a surgeon from Villa Clara province, was kidnapped in April 2019, along with Dr. Assel Herrera, a general practitioner from Las Tunas, as they were going to the hospital where they worked.

Since then, Cuban authorities have been in touch with their Kenyan peers to bring them back home.

In late August, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez spoke over the telephone with his Kenyan counterpart, Raychelle Awour Omamo, about the situation of the Cuban physicians.

On July 31, Cuban Public Health Minister Jose Angel Portal had a similar conversation with his Kenya peer, Mutahi Kagwe. Since the very first moment, Cuba established communication channels with Kenyan authorities to deal with that issue, while officials from the African country keep the doctors' families updated about their situation.
