Díaz-Canel Presides Extraordinary PCC Plenum in Pinar del Río

Presided over by Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, the Extraordinary Plenums of the Provincial Party Committees began today in Pinar del Río province.

According to information published by the PCC on its website, the President and Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization, will lead these meetings with the aim of reflecting on the role of the leading organization of society in confronting the complex scenario the country is experiencing.

The meetings will be guided by the premise that every challenge, adversity, and obstacle will only be overcome with the participation and dedication of all Cubans. Emphasis will also be placed on the importance of grassroots organizations and the Party membership in the current times.

Another objective of these exchanges is to elaborate strategies that more effectively prioritize tasks related to the defense of the homeland, the stability of the National Electro-Energy System, food production—including the sugarcane-sugar program—and the quality of services to the population.

These agreements were ratified at the XI Plenum of the Party's Central Committee, which decided to postpone the holding of the 9th Congress to concentrate all efforts on these priorities and overcome the country's current situation. This situation is marked by the intensified economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States government and by our own internal shortcomings, which constitutes the central focus of political and ideological work.
