Díaz-Canel: CELAC united in diversity to face of U.S. sanctions

Havana, Sep 18 (RHC) Today, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel called for a Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) united in diversity to confront the coercive measures of the United States against nations in the region.

During his speech at the VI Summit of the organization, the head of state thanked the Mexican people and government 'for their deep friendship and solidarity with Cuba'.

Likewise, he expressed his gratitude to other governments and peoples represented there who 'immediately understood the opportunistic campaign of discredit' encouraged by the United States against the largest of the Antilles.

Díaz-Canel reiterated that Cuba will continue with the defense of social justice following the example of Cuban National Hero José Martí who said: “with all and for the sake of all”.

I appreciate the support for the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade that was tightened during the pandemic despite being condemned by the international community,' he said.

The President denounced that the US government is trying to relaunch the Monroe Doctrine (1823) and is going against international law and the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a peace zone.

Heads of State from 17 countries are participating in the meeting, as well as two vice presidents, nine foreign ministers and other high level authorities, according to the Mexican Foreign Ministry.

CELAC is an intergovernmental mechanism for dialogue and political coordination and its membership includes the 33 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.(Prensa Latina)
