Madrid, Sep 22 (Prensa Latina) A swimming pool swallowed by lava and people distressed because their houses were destroyed summarize on Wednesday the Cumbre Vieja volcano eruption on Spain's La Palma island, in the Atlantic Ocean.

Footage resembles fantasy disaster films, with the difference that we are watching a powerful cry of nature that has changed the geography of this Spanish island.

The river of lava from the volcano, which has one more eruptive fissure and is about to reach the coast, has destroyed some 200 houses, caused significant damage to road infrastructure and forced the evacuation of 6,000 people so far.

Two earthquakes were felt on Monday and Tuesday in that area, with which a new eruptive fissure opened near Tacande, in El Paso. Thus, the slow movement of lava flowing towards the coast increased.

The latest information provided by Involcan indicate that the volcano expels columns of smoke that are hundreds of meters high and between 8,000 and 10,500 tons of sulfur dioxide every day.

Spanish President Pedro Sanchez, who started his postponed trip to the United Nations, noted that he will return on Thursday to continue monitoring the situation.
