Moscow, Sep 15 (Prensa Latina) Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday described the evidence delivered to US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan, revealing Washington's interference in this country's elections, as serious enough.

The foreign minister said that Moscow is waiting for an explanation from US authorities to find out why this is happening, while Sullivan promised to analyze the evidence.

Lavrov stated that the actions against Russia are linked to the refusal of several foreign platforms on information and communication networks to remove content prohibited by the Eurasian nation's legislation, Sputnik news agency reported.

The Safe Internet League detected more than 4,500 false publications about the elections to the State Duma (Lower House of the Russian Parliament), which will be held this weekend, its director Ekaterina Mizulina informed.

The Lower House will hold elections from September 17 to 19, to avoid gathering of people who could be conducive to the spread of the coronavirus.

Along with the elections of 450 legislators of the State Duma, the heads of nine constituent entities of Russia will hold direct elections (in three others, they will be elected by the legislators of the legislative assemblies) and 39 regional parliaments.
