Havana, Jul 1 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS) said on Friday that the country's financial policies protect the most vulnerable families.

A report, published Friday on the Granma daily, added that these policies protect communities, families in vulnerable situations, mothers with three or more children, and young people who are no longer studying or working.

This mechanism, it said, meets government policies supported by the State Budget.

According to the MTSS, Cuba has more than 55,000 mothers with three or more children, which does not mean that all of them are in a situation of vulnerability.

In this regard, Deputy Director of Social Prevention of the MTSS, Rita Machin, pointed out that more than 2,000 mothers are given the possibility of taking their child to a daycare center to start working.

Machin, also Master of Science, said that in late 2021, through a State effort, a budget of 250 million pesos (CUP, 24 are equivalent to one dollar at the official exchange rate) was available for the purchase of housing.

She added that this experiment was carried out in three provinces in the east and center of the country (Granma, Ciego de Avila and Villa Clara), when 314 mothers in vulnerable situations were given these houses.

The budget allocated by the State for Social Assistance this year exceeds five billion CUP. With this amount, 369,187 beneficiaries are protected by monetary benefits.
