Havana, Sept 29 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel is visiting Thursday the Ernesto Guevara thermoelectric plant in the nearby city of Santa Cruz del Norte, with three units and a generation capacity of 295 megawatts (MW).

According to the government´s oficial Twitter account, the workers of that power plant are working around the clock to recover the generation power, which will be part of the synchronization of the national power grid.

It also reported that shortly before the arrival of the president, unit number 2 of the station was already contributing 23 megawatts (MW) to part of that system in western Cuba, the region hit by Hurricane Ian. Previously, the president hailed on social media the support of uniformed people in the cleaning of Havana, after the impact of the winds of this weather phenomenon on Tuesday.

Diaz-Canel thanked chiefs, officers, cadets, soldiers and fighters of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of Interior, “indispensable in trying times.”

On Wednesday, the Civil Defense decreed the Recovery Phase for the provinces of Pinar del Rio, Artemisa, Havana, Mayabeque and the special municipality Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Youth), given Hurricane Ian was far away from the country
