Cuban President mourns death of revolutionary fighters

Havana, Jun 24 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Friday mourned the death of reserve Brigadier Generals Enrique Acevedo and Armando Quiñonez.

The president tweeted that “we mourn the death of Reserve Brigadier Generals Enrique Acevedo Gonzalez and Armando Quiñonez Machado, two men who devoted their lives to Cuba and the Revolution. Our heartfelt condolences go out to their families and friends.”

Also on Twitter, the National Assembly of People’s Power sent its condolences and described the generals’ careers “as a brilliant record of service in defense and devotion to the Homeland and the Revolution.”

Reserve Brigadier General Enrique Acevedo joined the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) in 1957, when he was only 14 years old.

Due to his outstanding participation, he was chosen for key combats that resulted in the triumph of the Revolution in 1959, according to Granma daily.

He was a founder of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), carried out internationalist missions in the Republic of Angola and was a member of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).

Throughout his career, he received multiple decorations and held various positions in the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), including: Chief of Infantry Company, Chief of Staff and Chief of Infantry Division in the Central and Western armies, Chief of the Provincial Staff of Havana City.
