Havana, Jul 4 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel on Monday highlighted the fundamental role that culture plays in the sociopolitical scenario that the country is facing today, at a meeting with members of the National Union of Writers and Artists (Uneac).

We discussed culture, media and social networks with Uneac, on the way to follow up on the agreements of its 9th Congress. I told them about the need to provide all possible spaces from the media for popular participation, the president wrote on his Twitter account.

According to the Cuban Presidency’s website, Diaz-Canel emphasized the reach of mass media such as radio, which allows “summoning popular participation in the country’s processes,” and called for the positioning of valuable contents in tune with the codes of the new generations.

During the recent meeting, issues inherent to artistic and literary creation in Cuba were discussed, such as the growing presence of cultural contents on social networks, as well as Uneac’s strategic alliances with other key institutions in order to achieve communication goals.

After analyzing the efforts and purposes of Uneac at this stage,

creators and members reflected on how to strengthen the practice of specialized critics in the media in order to increase the quality and quantity of nationally produced proposals for children and youths and to promote actions to protect the audiovisual heritage.
