Havana, Dec 2 (Prensa Latina)Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Thursday commemorated the 65th anniversary of the landing of the expedition members of the Granma yacht and the Day of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR).

“Honor and glory for the 82 #Granma expedition members who landed in ‘Las Coloradas’ beach 65 years ago, with the determination to be free or fall as heroes,” the president wrote on Twitter.

The head of State recalled the heroic deed that, he said, set all Cubans free, as the young people who arrived from Mexico later became the core of the Rebel Army that fought the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship (1952-1959), under leadership of the historic leader Fidel Castro (1926-2016).

The unity of the rebel forces with workers, peasants, students and university militias gave rise to the creation of the FAR in October 1959 as a Ministry. I was led until 2008 by Army General Raul Castro. Diaz-Canel also congratulated the armed forces, which he called the “school, shield and pride of the nation.”

Likewise, he addressed the different challenges faced by the FAR amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The first against #COVID19 and in the supply of oxygen to hospitals, they are always at in the vanguard of the fights for life, #CubaViveyAbraza”, he tweeted.
