Cuban pitcher Yoan Lopez to miss Premier 12 tournament

Cuban pitcher Yoan Lopez will not be with Cuba in the Premier 12, the Cuban federation of this sport reported on X.
“We regret to inform that the aggravation of a health situation will prevent pitcher Yoan Lopez from being part of the Cuba team in the Premier 12 baseball tournament. This was communicated to us by the player himself, to whom we wish a speedy recovery and thank him for his willingness," the publication reads.
Lopez played four seasons in MLB, four of them with the Arizona Rattlers franchise and one with the New York Mets, between 2018 and 2022.
There, he participated in 121 challenges with a balance of three wins and eight losses, a clean runs average of 4.39 and 92 strikeouts in 112 innings and two-thirds of work.
"El Asere", a native of the Isle of Youth, a special municipality in Cuba, played three seasons in the National Series and participated in NPB with the Yomiuri Giants and in Mexican professional baseball with several teams.
According to the national team's pitching coach, Pedro Luis Lazo, Lopez was to serve as one of the team's closers in the Premier 12, a tournament that will be held Nov. 9-24 in Mexico, Taiwan and Japan.
