Havana, Aug 16 (Prensa Latina) Cuba will put faith on its 16 athletes to maintain a position at the forefront at Tokyo Paralympic Games, technical chief of the national delegation to Tokyo 2020 Jorge Reinaldo Palma.

In statements offered to JIT digital website, the specialist reiterated the importance of efficiency in the balance of athletes, medals and final positions, to conquer a privileged place in the important event scheduled for August 24 to September 5.

Palma highlighted the good preparation of the national athletes in the middle of Covid-19 with the benefit of previous preparation bases in Dubai and Spain.

The technical director indicated as candidates for medals in the Paralympics of the Japanese capital the queen of speed Omara Durand, as well as rocket Leinier Savón, discus thrower Leonardo Díaz and swimmer Lorenzo Pérez.

He also mentioned javelin throwers Guillermo Varona and Ulicer Aguilera, weightlifter Leidy Rodríguez, shooter Yenigladys Suárez and judoka Yordani Fernández as possible medals.

Five years ago in Rio de Janeiro, the Cuban representatives achieved with just 22 competitors 15 medals, from them eight golds, to finish 18th in the medal table.
