Geneva, Nov 28 (Prensa Latina) On Monday, Cuba was elected as Vice President, on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement, of the 9th Review Conference of the States Parties to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Biological Weapons. This is the most important forum for this international instrument, which has 184 States Parties, and is held every five years.
The Cuban delegation to the meeting -to be held through December 16- is headed by the Director-General of MINREX´s Multilateral Affairs and International Law Rodolfo Benitez, accompanied by the Cuban Ambassador to the UN-Geneva Juan Antonio Quintanilla and other diplomats.
Cuba has been member of the Convention since 1976, and has a strong national implementation system which guarantees the strict implementation of this mechanism, the delegation said.
The Cuban delegation added that it will condemn the impacts of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba as well as its violation of the provisions of the Convention on International Assistance and Cooperation.
