Havana, Nov 17 (Prensa Latina) On the occasion of International Students' Day the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) today highlighted the contribution of the country's students to fight and control Covid-19.

Through its official organ, the political organization praised and thanked the work of students who joined isolation centers, hospitals and active health research during the most difficult moments of the pandemic.

“With these youngsters we won the battle against the loneliness of elderly and vulnerable people in need of a helping hand to bring food and medicines to their homes,” the text added.

On previous occasions, the Cuban government also thanked the students and young people in general for their role in confronting the disease while the schools were closed due to the epidemic.

During a recent exchange with students, the country’s president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, learned about the main satisfactions and concerns of students who joined health centers or participated in the care of vulnerable families.

Every November 17, International Students’ Day is celebrated in several countries in remembrance of a group of young Czechoslovakians who confronted facism in their homeland and staged a heroic resistance in 1939 in the streets of Prague, the capital of that country.
