The Fidel Castro Ruz Center honors the 65th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution with the screening of a classic of the national filmography: Memorias del Subdesarrollo (Memories of Underdevelopment-1968), by multi-awarded filmmaker Tomás Gutiérrez Alea (1928- 1996).

The Havana institution, devoted to the study and dissemination of the thought, work, life and example of the Commander-in-Chief, joins the day of celebration entitled “The Revolution in the Cuban Cinema of the Revolution”, with this movie jewel reserved for 2:00 p.m. local time.

Sergio is a bourgeois who decides to remain in Cuba while his family and friends leave the country at the beginning of the revolutionary triumph of January 1, 1959, at which time he devotes himself to writing his memoirs and searching for a meaning in life.

The Revolution becomes a challenge, he tries to analyze it, understand it or put his bourgeois values on it. When loneliness is about to drown him, he takes to the streets, and little by little he discovers how Havana changes, how his world crumbles and values and activities emerge around him.

The film features outstanding performances by Sergio Corrieri, Daisy Granados, Eslinda Núñez, Omar Valdés and René de la Cruz, among other faces of the nation’s seventh art.
