Cuban authorities report 292 new Covid-19 cases and 254 recoveries

Havana, Jan 18 (Prensa Latina) Cuban authorities on Monday reported 292 new Covid-19 cases, three deaths from complications associated to the disease and 254 recoveries in the past 24 hours.
 
With those data, Dr. Francisco Duran, national director of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), informed that Cuba has accumulated 18,443 Covid-19 patients, 173 deaths and 13,797 recoveries since March 2020.

'On Monday, there is a downturn in the number of new cases, but there is still a transmission and epidemiological complexity that requires extreme protection measures,' the expert added.

Dr. Duran explained that there are 4,439 active case in hospitals, 4,393 of whom are evolving well, 35 are in seriously ill condition and 11 are critical.

Of those diagnosed over the past 24 hous, 37 are under 20 years of age, raising to 1,922 the number of active patients in that age group.

On Sunday, 11,387 PCR tests were made across the countr, amounting to 1,701,134 such stests since the outbreak of the pandemic in Cuba in March last year.

Dr. Duran added that 188 patients were asymptomatic at the time of diagnosis.
