Cuban authorities congratulate their Cambodian counterparts

Phnom Penh, November 9 (RHC)-- Cuba's top leaders on Tuesday congratulated their Cambodian counterparts on the occasion of the 68th anniversary of the independence of the Indochinese nation.

In a message to the king of Cambodia, Norodom Sihamoni, the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the country, Miguel Diaz-Canel, ratified the commitment to continue working to strengthen bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation.

Likewise, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero sent a letter to his Cambodian counterpart, Hun Sen.

For his part, the President of the National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo Hernández, expressed his wishes to strengthen ties between both nations and Parliaments in two messages to his counterpart Heng Samrin, and to the head of the Senate, Say Chhum.

After more than 60 years of diplomatic relations, Cuba and Cambodia continue to strengthen their ties in different areas of cooperation.

The Caribbean nation maintains the scholarship program for young Cambodians wishing to study medicine.

At the multilateral level, the Kingdom of Cambodia has been a firm and permanent opponent of the blockade and other aggressive and interfering policies of the government of the United States against the largest of the Antilles.

This Southeast Asian nation gained its independence on November 9, 1953, after 90 years of French colonial rule.

On Tuesday, the ceremony held for the occasion, headed by King Norodom Sihamoni and Prime Minister Hun Sen, was attended by the Cuban ambassador to Cambodia, Liurka Rodriguez.
