Cuban athletes lost in Judo Masters in Qatar

Doha, Jan 12 (Prensa Latina) Cuban athletes Maylin del Toro, in 63 kilograms; and Magdiel Estrada in 73, lost today in ther respective competitions at the Doha Masters, Qatar, which welcomes the top 36 judokas in each division.
 
Del toro, who lost in Group D, was defeated by Slovenian Andrea Leski competing for the bronze medal, after being penalized three times to certify her disqualification.

In her debut, this judoka from the province of Santiago de Cuba defeated Italian Maria Centracchio by wazari in golden rule, but she was defeated by Dutch Sanne Vermeer by ippon in quarter finals.

The finalists in that division will be French Clarisse Agbegnenou and Japanese Nami Nabekura.

Meanwhile, in the 73-kilo division among male competitors, Cuban Magdiel Estrada was defeated in his debut by ippon in only 49 seconds by Italian Fabio Basile, ranked 18 in the world.

Japanese Soichi Hasimoto and South Korean Changrim An will compete for the gold medal in this division, whereas the competition for the bronze medal will tbe between German Igor Wandtke and Zhansay Smagulov from Kazakhstan, and Uzbek Khikmatillokh Turaev against Canadian Antoine Bouchard.

After these results, Cuban athlete Del Toro added 468 points of the world ranking, where she should be ranked six with 1,470 points; Estrada, on the other hand, got 200 points, so he will remain ranked 32.

The tournament will end tomorrow on Wednesday with the participation of Cuban athletes Kaliema Antomarchi, in 78 kilograms; olympic gold medalist in over 78 kilos in London 2012, Idalys Ortiz, as well as Ivan Felipe Silva, in 90 kg; and Andy Granda, in over 100 kg.
