Cuban artists carry out a pictorial action in honor of Marti

Havana, Feb 24 (Prensa Latina) Artists and intellectuals staged on Wednesday in this capital the Resurrection pictorial action, which paid tribute to the apostle Jose Marti and the 126th anniversary of the resumption of the struggles for independence in Cuba.
 
The National Choir of Cuba, under the baton of maestro Digna Guerra, opened the day with the national anthem of Bayamo and interpreted emblematic themes of traditional music such as, 'El Chan Chan,' by Compay Segundo, and 'El necio,' by Silvio Rodriguez.

Hosted by the Ministry of Culture, the tribute was given by ethnologist and poet Miguel Barnet, who read the poems 'Patria' (Homeland), 'La política' (Policy) and 'Empujando un país' (Pushing a Country Forward).

'We are here to support our Revolution on a historic day. It is one more way to offer our word with firmness and a fiery fire,' stated to Prensa Latina, the honorary president of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).

Several intellectuals such as, the National Literature Prize winner Nancy Morejon reaffirmed the validity of the intellectuals' thought and historic commitment to the Cuban Revolution through poetry and raised their voice against the annexation.

The event brought together personalities and authorities of the system of cultural institutions, among them, the president of UNEAC, Luis Morlote; the Minister of Culture Alpidio Alonso, and the president of Casa de las Americas, Abel Prieto.
