HAVANA, Cuba, May 9 (ACN) Cuban wrestlers concluded on Sunday their participation in the Pan American Wrestling Championships in Acapulco, Mexico, with four gold, four silver and two bronze medals.

The first to see action in this continental competition was the Greco-Roman team, whose members Oscar Pino (130 kg), Yosvanys Peña (77 kg) and Daniel Gregorich (87 kg) finished first after defeating Eduard Soghomonyan (Brazil), David Elías Choc (Guatemala) and Johan Antonio Batista (Dominican Republic), respectively.

Meanwhile, Juan Conde (97 kg) had to make do with the second place after losing to Kevin Mejía (Honduras) in the finals, albeit it was enough for him to secure his division's presence in the 2023 Pan American Games of Santiago de Chile.

As to the women’s freestyle, Yaynelis Sanz (57 kg) ended first over the Mexican Alma Jane Valencia and Hangelen Llanes (68 kg) finished second to the Venezuelan Soleymi Antonieta Caraballo, whereas the men’s team won silver medals through Lazaro Daniel Hernandez (86 kg) and Arturo Silot (97 kg).

In the 2020 Pan American Championships, the Cuban wrestlers finished with five gold, three silver and two bronze medals, so this time they brought one less title, albeit in total they once again won 10 medals.
