Cuba registered 104 cases and sixth day without deaths due to Covid-19

Havana, May 8 (Prensa Latina) Cuba today registered 104 new positive cases of Covid-19, a decrease of 19 cases with respect to the previous day, and the sixth consecutive day without deaths.

The number of patients admitted decreased to 2,471 (37 less), of which 1,881 are suspected, 25 are under surveillance and 565 are confirmed active (27 less than last Friday), according to the daily report released by the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap in Spanish).

Of the total number of cases so far, 101 were contacts of other infected persons, two with source of transmission abroad and in one case it was not possible to determine the origin of the infection.

The authorities granted 131 medical discharges, the recovery of nationals reached 1,094,829 (99.2 percent of all confirmed cases).

There are 565 positive patients admitted to hospitals, 557 with a stable clinical evolution, while eight are being treated in intensive care units: four critical and four serious.

The provinces with the highest incidence during the day with more than 10 positive cases reported are Camagüey (20), Havana (15) and Artemisa (14), while Guantanamo only reported one case and Granma and Santiago de Cuba have no cases.

Cuba accumulates 1,103,980 diagnosed with the pathogen since March 11, 2020 and the total number of fatalities as a consequence of the pandemic continues at 8,527.

Such behavior places the nation’s lethality rate at 0.77 percent, well below the 1.21 in the world and 1.77 in the Americas, according to Minsap data.
