Havana, Mar 4 (Prensa Latina) Cuba on Thursday paid tribute to the victims of the sabotage of French La Coubre steamship, considered one of the most criminal terrorist attacks organized from the United States against this country.

In a ceremony celebrated in this capital on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of the attack on the vessel, the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in Old Havana, Tamara Placeres, highlighted that Washington's attacks against this country are still vivid.

She recalled that the ship, with ammunition and weapons on board to strengthen the defensive forces of the emerging Revolution, exploded when port workers were unloading the merchandise, an attack planned by the CIA.

As a result, nearly 100 people were killed, 34 went missing and 400 were injured, dozens of whom were forever impaired.

According to the official, the explosion became a milestone in Cuba's history when, at the victims' funeral, Historic Leader Fidel Castro ratified the premise of always withstanding and fighting, crystalized in the slogan 'Patria o Muerte!' (Homeland or Death).

This was not the only terrorist attack perpetrated to change the course of the Cuban revolutionary process. There were other ones such as the explosion of an aircraft flying from Barbados, the terrorist attacks at hotels or the mercenary Bay of Pigs invasion.

She stressed that today's main confrontation scenario is on digital platforms, where terrorism and war against Cuba are exacerbated.

'US administrations have never been moral or decent enough to apologize and recant for the damage caused,' Tamara Placeres denounced.

At the commemoration ceremony, attended by local authorities and the people in general, wreaths sent by PCC First Secretary Raul Castro and President of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel were laid.
