Beijing, May 14 (RHC)-- Cuba took part this Thursday in a videoconference offered by the southern Chinese province of Liaoning to countries in Latin America and Europe to share their experiences in the fight against COVID-19.

During the virtual, on-line conference, experts detailed in depth the practices and the mechanisms of prevention and control implemented since last January, as well as the criteria followed to apply different therapies, including that of traditional Chinese medicine.

The Caribbean nation was represented by Doctors Yamira Palacios, head of the Medical Brigade, Ileana Álvarez and Rafael Arocha, who have been in charge of the care of their compatriots since the beginning of the health emergency.

Dr. Palacios said it was a very useful scientific exchange and was part of the actions carried out worldwide after the dangerous pneumonia appeared, with the need to join efforts against the challenge.  The Cuban doctor said it was a privilege to participate in the conference and also an opportunity to exchange about the experiences of Chinese specialists, since they were the first to apply strategies to confront an unknown disease and managed to control it with excellent results.

He also highlighted Cuba's progress thanks to the deployment of a comprehensive action plan that includes the strengthening of primary health care along with the tireless work of the scientific sector, biotechnology and the participation of the entire community.

In this context, he emphasized the political will of President Miguel Díaz-Canel, the Ministry of Health and the entire government team to contain COVID-19 and save as many lives as possible.

Meanwhile, Dr. Arocha commented to Prensa Latina that the meeting was an important platform for access to the methods followed to care for those who contract an invasive pathology.

Likewise, his colleague Ileana Álvarez expressed her appreciation for the possibility of knowing first-hand the experiences accumulated in the Asian giant.

In her opinion, with these contributions plus the political will of the State and the strength of its health system, Cuba will be equally capable of moving forward and overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the videoconference, the hosts responded to questions and concerns from the invited countries.
