Cuba: National Electroenergy System is operating stably

Havana, Oct 1 (RHC) Lázaro Guerra, technical director of the Cuban Electrical Union, reported that the National Electroenergy System (SEN) is currently operating stably.

He assured that Unit 5 of the Mariel Thermoelectric Plant started up this day, however, he said, the western part of the country, from Pinar del Río to Mayabeque, has service problems due to the impact of Hurricane Ian.

In statements made last night on national television, the specialist said that there are also service problems due to deficiencies in generation capacity in the provinces of Matanzas and Guantánamo.

However, he confirmed that some thermoelectric units in the country will gradually incorporate into the National Electroenergy System.

After the passage of the meteorological event through the province of Pinar del Río, the westernmost province of the country, more than 3,300 poles and 400 transformers were affected, he said, adding that the situation there is complex

He updated that in Artemisa, 21.4 percent of the population has electricity service; in Havana, 71.27 percent; in Mayabeque, 96.79 percent; and in the special municipality of La Isla de la Juventud, 96.16 percent.
