Hundreds of multipurpose rubber balls to train the teams that will participate in the 60th National Baseball Series have been manufactured by Cuban sports innovator Francisco Javier Carbonell.

Carbonell, former member of Cuban baseball and softball teams, told Prensa Latina on Friday that he has been manufacturing craft rubber balls for several years. Most of Cuban provinces use them to train pitchers and players.

Carbonell has received relevant national awards in scientific meetings such as those of the National Baseball School, a prize with greatest economic impact, and a recognition at the 8th International Convention of Physical Activity and Sport (AFIDE) in Cuba.

He stressed that baseball coaches in several Latin American countries have used multipurpose rubber balls in methodological work, with a view to increasing pitchers' velocity and strength training for hitters.
