Havana, Sep 16 (Prensa Latina) Directors of Japan's International Cooperation Agency (JICA) held talks with Cuba's Ambassador to Japan Miguel Angel Ramirez about joint projects aimed at the country's socioeconomic development, the Foreign Ministry reported on Wednesday.

According to the press release, both sides addressed the ways to resume the Project for the Improvement of the Supply of Electricity in the Isle of Youth, which prioritizes the introduction of renewable sources of energy in that territory and is currently being stopped due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition, the representatives discussed the possibility that Japanese and Cuban consultants could work in parallel with a view to contributing to the implementation of the Cuban Economic and Social Development Program for 2030.

JICA coordinates Japan's official international public assistance and is aimed to help the economic and social development of developing countries.

That entity has an office in Havana since 2018 and under the modalities of technical cooperation, non-reimbursable financial assistance and loans, it has cooperation programs in Cuba aimed to increase food production, healthcare, energy, transport, agriculture and environmental conservation.

Cuba's Foreign Ministry refers that the outstanding joint projects are for the improvement of agricultural equipment and rice seed production technology, the formation of a national transport master plan and the development of the energy service on the Isle of Youth.
