Cuba holds on to sixth place in Cali 2021

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 29 (ACN) Cuba still ranks sixth in the medal table of the First Junior Pan Am Games in Cali after its divers, judokas and weightlifters won a silver medal and two bronze medals on Sunday, for a total tally of six gold, six silver and five bronze medals.

The United States (25-11-17) tops the leaderboard, followed by Brazil (23-15-23), Mexico (22-38-15), Colombia (20-13-24) and Argentina (10-7-14).

With 416.25 points in the 10-meter platform, diver Luis Gustavo Cañabate finished second to the Mexican Randal Willars Valdez (448.90-gold) and ahead of the Brazilian Kawan Figueredo (393.85-bronze).

The mixed judo team tournament produced a bronze medal via Thalia Nariño (+70 kg), Omar Cruz (+90 kg), Sergueis Rodríguez (90 kg), Idelainnis Gómez (70 kg), Kimy Bravo (73 kg) and Thailien Castillo (57 kg). So did the weightlifter Elizabeth Reyes (87 kg), third with a total of 222 kilograms (97 snatch and 125 clean & jerk).

Another outstanding, if unrewarded, performance was that of weightlifter Daniel Cabrera (109 kg), who finished fifth with a total of 141 kg (141-182).

In diving, Carlos Daniel Ramos also finished fifth with 359.25 points, whereas Anisley García failed to win her third gold medal and ended up fourth in the three-meter springboard, with 253.60 points. The swimmers also stood out with two sixth places in 100-m backstroke (f) and 4x100 mixed relay

Boxing had its first finalist when Ewart Andrés Marín (52 kg) defeated the Guatemalan José Daniel Felipe 5-0, whereas Khriszthihan Barrera (75 kg) prevailed over the Mexican José Ismael López and will try to secure the silver medal on Monday against Dante Layne, from the United States.

On a heavier note, the Cuban baseball team lost 2-3 to Nicaragua.
