Cuba decided to extend until January 31, 2025 the non-commercial import of food, toiletries and medical supplies, as accompanying luggage and exempt from customs duties, the Official Gazette informed today.

The report details that the non-commercial import of items will be up to the limit of 500 US dollars of the equivalent value or weight, up to 50 kilograms, in the value/weight ratio established by the General Customs of the Republic.

Likewise, the increase of the customs value limit for non-commercial imports made by individuals through shipments is maintained, up to US$500.

The exemption from the payment of the customs tax for the first 30 dollars of the value or its equivalent weight of three kilograms of the shipment will continue and only the tariff rate of 30 percent will be applied to the eventual weight excess.

According to the Official Gazette, the extension of the term includes the non-commercial import and exemption from payment of customs tax of food, toiletries, medicines and medical supplies sent by individuals by air, sea and postal shipments, up to 200 U.S. dollars or equivalent weight up to 20 kilograms.

The measure indicates that the benefits are applied under the condition that the items classified as food or toiletries, as well as those identified as medicines and medical supplies that are part of the passenger’s luggage, are presented to customs in separate packages from the rest of the products.

According to Resolution 311 of the Ministry of Finance and Prices, Official Gazette, the decision will be made on an exceptional basis and will become in force since October 1.
