Havana, Jan 15 (Prensa Latina) Cuba on Friday confirmed that 341 people under 20 years of age are hospitalized as active Covid-19 patients, after reporting 73 patients in that age group over the past 24 hours.

Dr. Francisco Duran, national director of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), told a press conference that 60 of all 73 new patients are in pediatric age.

In addition, five children are seriously ill.

He pointed out that 1,807 people under 18 years of age have been confirmed positive to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus since the outbreak of the pandemic in Cuba in March 2020.

Dr. Duran noted again the need to raise individual responsibility and take good care of children and adolescents to prevent Covid-19 contagions.

'Although no deaths of children have been reported and most minors diagnosed in Cuba have evolved favorably, it is necessary to improve the care of them and parents must comply with health measures,' he pointed out.

According to MINSAP statistics, most Covid-19 patients under 20 years of age have been asymptomatic or shown mild symptoms; however, there are seriously ill and critical cases.

Cuba on Friday reported 547 new cases, totaling 17,096 patients since March 2020.
