Director of Communications of the Office of the Historian of Havana, Magda Resik, said that it was an honor to celebrate the life of Eusebio Leal, 80 years after his birth.

In a ceremony that gathered intellectuals, writers, and members of the Network of Historians and Curators Offices, the journalist recalled the model of patrimonial management founded by Leal, which is the nation's pride.

The ceremony at the City's Museum, the former Palace of the Captains General, and the place where "Leal was born into the world of restoration, into political life and where his passion for Cuba grew," said Resik.

She also thanked the presence of his son, Javier Leal, of renowned photographers who perpetuated Leal's image through their lenses as he walked around Havana and, particularly, singer-songwriter and friend Silvio Rodriguez.

Precisely, the founder of the New Song Movement read fragments that describe the virtuous and passionate spirit for Cuba of the Doctor of Historical Sciences contemplated in the book of interviews, 'Hay que creer en Cuba' (You have to believe in Cuba), authored by Resik.

The renowned Cuban author spoke of Leal's ethics, humility, and steadfast commitment to the rehabilitation of the Wonder City based on the volume, which is being published under the Latin American imprint Ocean Sur in collaboration with Ediciones Boloña.

In his words to the prologue, the president of Casa de las Americas, Abel Prieto, alluded to the relevant service as ambassador of Cuban culture that Leal exercised and cataloged him as a messenger of the truth of Cuba and the Revolution, which he "took to all forums and knew how to defeat prejudices."

The President of the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament), Esteban Lazo; Deputy Minister of Culture Fernando Rojas; the Hero of the Republic, Antonio Guerrero and the honorary president of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, Miguel Barnet, were on hand at the ceremony.
