Cuba to analyze Covid-19 impact at a UNESCO meetingCuba will reflect on the impact of Covid-19 in Latin America and the Caribbean during the virtual meeting convened by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) on September 10, a diplomatic source said.

Casa de las Americas president Abel Prieto and Cuban Ambassador at UNESCO Yahima Esquivel will represent the Caribbean nation at the UN agency's meeting, the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) informed.

Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean executive secretary Alicia Barcenas and Nobel Peace Prize winner Rigoberta Menchu, along with Latin American and Caribbean leaders, will also participate in the online event.

Two panels focused on learning what the regional perception is around the challenges of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic will take place during the forum, MINREX states.

The meeting will start at 17:00 local time on Thursday, September 10, and will be available on Facebook Live, the diplomatic source said.

During the months fighting Covid-19, UNESCO has played an important role as an analyst of the impacts of the health crisis on education and calls on governments to prioritize this sector in the recovery stage.

UNESCO and Cuba agreed to guarantee the right to inclusive, equitable and quality education, and promote learning opportunities, especially in times of the pandemic.
