Beijing, Jul 6 (Prensa Latina) China on Wednesday made massive PCR tests and activated lockdown measures in several communities after a rise in the number of new Covid-19 patients was recorded, mainly in Anhui, Xi'an, Shanghai and Macao.

The National Health Commission reported this Wednesday 427 cases, among active and asymptomatic patients, with which the country has so far accumulated 4,495,778 contagions in its mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan since the disease, caused by the aforementioned coronavirus, was detected in December 2019.

The country also reported 103 deaths due to complications related to the disease in the last few hours, so the death toll rose to 21,761.

The city of Xi’an decreed as of today a seven-day lockdown for its 13 million inhabitants, suspended the socio-economic life, brought forward school vacations and ordered daily PCR tests after 18 people were reported with the disease due to an outbreak detected at a recycling market.

The same measures are also still in force in the Macao Special Administrative Region and Anhui province, as the current wave since late June caused an increase in the number of contagions and, in the case of the former, two people died of Covid-19.
