Colombian Senator Gloria Florez Schneider, a member of the Pacto Historico political coalition, which brings together progressive leftist movements, led the official delegation from that country participating in the 44th edition of the Caribbean Festival, with the goal of strengthening cultural ties and regional integration.
Along with fellow senators Sonia Bernal and Catalina Perez, and accompanied by advisors Diana Viveros and Laura Cantillo, Florez Schneider highlighted the symbolic value of the Colombian presence in Santiago de Cuba.
Solidarity with this Caribbean nation and the need to strengthen ties between our people is the main message we bring, and from the Colombian Caribbean, we come to reaffirm that our Afro-descendant, Indigenous, and mestizo roots unite us in a common history of resistance and freedom, she stated.
One of the most significant moments of the South American country's participation in the traditional event will be the presentation of the Barranquilla Carnival, through the Palma Africana group, directed by maestro Carmen Melendez, the senator said.
She emphasized that her 24-person delegation brought artistic expressions that will fill the 44th edition of the Festival, declared a National Cultural Heritage Site, with rhythm and color.
Colombia has had a constant and significant presence at the Caribbean Festival for more than four decades, reflecting the cultural richness of its Afro-descendant, Indigenous, and mestizo regions, which have filled the streets of Santiago with rhythm and color.
