Santiago de Chile, Aug 3 (Prensa Latina) The solidarity movement with Cuba in Chile is stepping up its actions to contribute syringes and other supplies to the vaccination against Covid-19 in Cuba.

This effort is summarized in a second stage of the 'Syringes for Cuba' campaign, launched on Monday in Chile as a contribution by friends of Cuba to mitigate the effects of the United States blockade, reinforced even in the midst of the pandemic of Covid-19.

Eduardo Oyarzún, representative of the Chilean Alumni Association at the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) in Havana, pointed out that the purpose is to raise 30 million Chilean pesos (about 40 thousand dollars) for the purchase of syringes and protection elements.

The amount of funds was exceeded in the first stage, which lasted from last April until May, allowing for the acquisition of 1,200 syringes, which were added to the other contributions of a vast movement that developed in parallel in other countries of the continent.

The supplies helped boost the Covid-19 vaccination campaign in Cuba with the use of the Abdala and Soberana vaccine candidates, developed entirely by scientific institutions in Cuba.

This time the campaign will run until September 30th and will bear the name of the founder of the José Martí Chilean Cuban Cultural Institute, Magaly Matus, who passed recently and was a fervent defender of the Cuban Revolution throughout her life.

The first stage had broad support from the committees and associations that make up the Movement for Solidarity with Cuba throughout Chile, as well as other institutions, political parties, unions and many people who gave their personal contribution.
