Havana, Nov 14 (Prensa Latina) The Havana-based Casa del Alba Cultural will host a concert on Tuesday to commemorate the 503rd anniversary of the city of Havana.

“As less than 24 hours separate us, Casa del Alba will be a stage to sing to the enchanting lady of five centuries. The capital is celebrating its birthday and we celebrate it as we know how to do it, by singing to the magic that surrounds it,” the institution noted on Twitter.

The guest stars are Luna Vocal Ensemble, Schola Cantorum Coralina, the ETECSA Choir (Cuban Telecommunications Company), and the vocal group Novel Voz.

On November 15, a concert will be given at Plaza de Armas, in Old Havana, with the participation of musicians Gerardo Alfonso, Marcos Madrigal, Ariagna Reyes, Milagros de los Angeles Soto, Dayri Llanes, and Cristina Rodríguez, as well as Heydi Chapman, Laritza Pulido, Andrés Sánchez, Vania Borges and the National Folkloric Ensemble of Cuba.

Regarding the festivity, on November 16, the exhibitions La Habana, ciudad antigua (Havana, an Old City), will be inaugurated at the Rubén Martínez Villena Library; The Leal’s Life Told by His Museums, at the Goldsmith Museum; and Havana and Its Stories, at the Oswaldo Guayasamín House, all of which will be dedicated to Doctor in Historical Sciences Eusebio Leal.

For the anniversary, the streets of Havana’s Historic Heart will present exponents of various musical genres, such as break dance, rap; as well as performances of living statues, puppets, oral narration functions, and popular dances.

Founded on November 16, 1519, Havana received the title of city in 1592 by decision of Spanish King Felipe II.

With more than two million inhabitants, the Historic Center and the fortification system of the so-called Wonder City was declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1982 due to its intrinsic values and the efforts of its people to restore it and protect it.
